Palm Tree Pop-Up Mermaid Birthday Card

This was another fun card to make, using the new Palm Tree Pop-Up die set by Karen Burniston.
Unusually for me, I didn't use a single piece of patterned paper! I cut all the die cuts from off-white textured card stock, and coloured them with Distress Oxide Inks and a Mini Ink Blending Tool.

I cut two palm tree bases on the fold of the card base, and all the parts for two trees, then inked them before assembling. Karen has great instructions for assembling all her dies here on her website.

I strung up the hammock between the two trees, gluing the twine to the tree trunks.

I used the Princess and Mermaid die set to create the mermaid lying in the hammock, and glued sequins to her tail.

I added sea shells and a star fish from the Tropical Scene die set, and some turtles from the Sea Animals die set, which I glued transparent sequins to.

For the card front, I took another off-white piece of textured card stock, and blended Distress Oxide Inks into a sunset (the Oxide Inks blend so easily and beautifully!), and then used a die cut from the Tropical Scene die set for the silhouette.

The palm trees look so effective but are really easy to assemble! It's also really cool to see how they fold down flat!

Have a Whale of a Birthday Cake Pop-Up Card

I thoroughly enjoyed making this card in my sunny dining room this afternoon!
It's a slightly unusual themed card (an under the sea birthday cake!), but I think Karen Burniston's new Cake Pop-Up die set is great for animating anything!
I bought a couple of new Sizzix die sets a while ago, and wanted to try them out - they are the 'Under the Sea' and 'Paper Cuts Alphabet' Thinlit sets.

To decorate the cake I added scalloped trim that comes with the cake set, and used two yellow seaweed pieces attached to the top of the cake, either side of a whale.
To make the whale, I sandwiched some wire between two whale die cuts, and then between various sized water droplets.

I used Studio Calico's 'Printshop' 12x12 paper pad for most of the patterned papers, plus a couple from Prima's 'All About Me' 6x6 pad.
I attached the letters with Fineline glue.

I used dies from the Sizzix 'Under the Sea' die set for the card front.

Karen Burniston Design Team Challenge - Castle & Princess Pop-Up Card

It's Karen Burniston's Design Team Challenge time again, and this month the theme is 'Castle'!
Karen recently released the most gorgeous ever Castle Pop-Up die set, which comes together so easily, and looks so cool!!
The castle also works well on flat card surfaces too, as on my card here.

The castle mechanism is placed on the fold of a card, and the die set comes with all the lovely layer pieces to decorate the castle. I chose soft patterned papers from Craft Consortium's Tanya Whelan 'Wild Rose' 12x12 pad, and First Edition's 'Floral Pavilion' 6x6 pad.
The clouds and banners also come in the Castle Pop-Up set.

This picture shows better the mechanism of the card. There are tabs on the inside of the castle, which I covered over with more green patterned paper.
I hand cut the little path, and the hillside with trees die comes from Karen's new Outdoor Scene set.

I used the Princess and Mermaid die set, which creates different hairstyles and clothing for the figure, plus beautiful little accessories! I used Pearl Drops on the cheeks.

For the sentiment inside the card I used Word Set 5 - Royalty, which includes the banner, from which you can cut several phrases, plus it comes with the larger script words. You have tonnes of different sentiment options with this set!

Finally, for the card front, I used a label from the Fancy Label Accordion die set, a bird from the Outdoor Scene set, and the Happy Birthday die.

Sizzix Flip Its / Cricut Fire Engine Birthday Card

Here's a card I made for my Fire Chief's birthday!
I used the Sizzix Circle Flip-its #4 for the card base, and patterned paper layers.

For the fire engine I used the Boys will be Boys Cricut Cartridge, and added some highlights to the window with Signo White Uniball pen.

Karen Burniston's New Cake Pop-Up Birthday Card

I absolutely love Karen Burniston's new Cake Pop-Up die set!
I recently made a wedding cake card with it, and wanted to make a similar design of card, but with different patterned papers, and as a birthday card.
I used papers from Carta Bella's 'Flora' 6x6 pad, and love how the card turned out!

I used circle dies to create a plate around the base of the cake, which I cut in half along the fold, to create less bulk when the card closes.
I thought it would be fun to add a napkin to the side of the card, using a die from the Coffee Cup Pop-Up die set.

The flowers and leaves are all from the Flowers and Bees dies set, with Nuvo Crystal Drops Bubblegum Blush flower centres.

I decorated the cake with gold glitter card stock cut with dies from the Cake Trims set. The bows are also from the same set, and the candle comes with the Cake Pop-Ups set.

I just love the mechanism of this die set!! It's genius!
The cake folds down in itself as the card closes.

I kept the card front simple, with more gold glitter card stock cut with the new Happy Birthday die.
