'A Little Note' Accordion Card

I needed to send a note to a friend today, and so made this card for her.

 I used the Sizzix Accordion album die, and accompanying 'Frame & label, Bracket' die, plus 'Tattered Floral Garland', and 'Fancy Frame' dies.

The stamped sentiment is from Stampin' Up's 'You're My Type' set, and the papers are from Teresa Collins' 'Now & Then' pad.

 I'm putting it in Simon Says Stamp 'Anything Goes' Challenge and Sweet Stampin' Challenge's 'Anything But Birthday'.

Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts Minion Card!

The sun is shining, I'm in a great mood... it must be time for a MINION CARD!!

Our family loves the film 'Despicable Me' and the Minion characters, so I thought it'd be fun to make a pop-up one. I cut out by hand the body parts (except for the glasses and eyes which used various circle punches), using Cutter Bee scissors, which are brilliant for detailed work. I used Karen Burniston's Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts die for the card base, with Cuttlebug 'Seeing Spot' embossing folder. The 'Happy Birthday' is cut with Cricut 'Base Camp' cartridge.

I lightly inked the edges of all the pieces and card base with black Tim Holtz Distress Ink, and used my ATG gun to stick together the larger parts (it's wonderful glue - very strong), and a fine glue pen for the smaller paper piecing.

I love that by happy accident my minion peeps over the top of the card...

Yep... makes me happy!

My daughter (who is off school today with crazy diabetic blood sugars) has already bagsied the card for her birthday (in October!!)

(Realised afterwards I did the eyes a bit wrong - they should have white backgrounds instead of yellow.... just a note in case anyone is inspired to make their own!)

Tanya Whelan Layered Cake card

One of my New Year Resolutions was not to spend any money on myself till my birthday on 2nd May...  I picked out a few things I'd like yesterday (just in case the post was slow, and didn't come in time for my birthday!) but they arrived today, and so I've broken my resolution a little early!

I got some lovely Tanya Whelan papers... I love her fabrics (I made the bunting below, a while ago with them), and I also got a couple of Sizzix dies: Brenda Walton's new 'Layered Cake', and Karen Burniston's 'Fancy Frame'.

 Anyway, I cracked them open straight away, and made this card.

 I also used Eileen Hull's 'Borders and Hydrangeas' die, the Pop 'n Cuts base die, and stamp from Stampin' Up's 'Party This Way' set.

I actually managed to do a card front too!

I'm putting it in Simon Says Stamp 'Anything Goes' Challenge, and The Ribbon Reel Challenge, to use Blue with a hint of green, and ribbon and flowers.

Double-width Pop 'n Cuts card

I wanted to have a go at making a wider Pop 'n Cuts card, so I could fit the word 'Birthday' on the central bit, in chipboard letters, so I put the Label insert in my base tray, pushed up to one edge.

 I lightly folded my paper in half, and with the folded edge just inside the outer edge of the label, ran it through the Big Shot. (With a bit of tape to keep it in place.) I wanted the back of the card to be taller than the base of the card, so my paper is more to the right-hand side here.

 I then had my inner piece to work with. After this picture, I managed to remove most of the fold lines, by going over the paper with a bone folder.

 I added some paper layers, Heidi Swapp chipboard letters, Rhonna Farrer alphabet stamped letters, and stars cut with Sizzix Originals 'Stars', and Movers and Shapers Star and Flower set.

The white embossed layer is hand cut.

I'll pop this in Simon Stays Stamp 'Anything Goes' Challenge, and Simon Says Stamp & Go 'Color' challenge - to use a colour medium, such as ink, pens, paint etc. They also asked us to share tips. I used Copic pens on the card - my tip is to use them to colour all sorts of things to get them just the right shade you want. The chipboard letters were originally light shimmery pink, so I used the Copics to get my chipboard, and also the brad to red.

Pop 'n Cuts Thanks card

Thanks card using: Pop 'n Cuts base die with 'Thanks' insert, accompanying Thanks Sizzlit, heart from 'Owl #2' die, Alterations 'Mini Paper Rosettes', and K&Co's CutNPaste paper and tag.

(Have to say, I'm not very in love with this colour scheme... oh well it's done now!)

 I actually decorated the front for once (though the opposite way up than people usually do...)

I will put it in the Southern Girls Challenge, to use Buttons.

Thank You Teacher Pop 'n Cuts Card

Nothing nicer than playing with paper! I just felt like making something with the old red Sizzix 'School Supplies' die. This is what I came up with, using acetate sheeting in Karen Burniston's Accordion die.

 Other dies used: 'Frame & Label, Bracket', Stampin' Up 'Bigz Alphabet Typeset', Sizzix Originals 'Flourish', Sizzix 'Owl #2' (for heart), Papertry Ink Apple.

Green and Blue Sister card

I used the inspiration from the Ribbon Reel challenge - to use blues and a hint of green, ribbon and flowers, for this little card.

 Dies: Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Mini Bird and Cage, Nestabilities Labels 1.

Embellishments: Jo-Ann Scrap Essentials Family Woven Dictionary words, Crate Paper Glitter die cuts, Anna griffin Calisto Collection Designer Journal Tags.

Pink Girly Pop 'n Cuts card

I never really have a 'finished card' idea in mind - I usually just start a card, and it evolves as I make it. I started off last night colouring the little 'Gorjuss' girl with Copics, then thought Ooo - she might look nice 'sitting' on the edge of a pop 'n cuts card, then a whole dining room kind of grew up around her, including pink shaggy carpet.

Had great fun making this!

 I used the Label insert in the Pop 'n Cuts base die, but folded the top section of the label bit back, and secured it with an extra piece of cardboard glued to the underneath.

 The whole card does fold flat - for the cake stand, I made a kind of 4 sided box (to attach it to the back of the card) which can fold flat, upwards. The bottom of the cake stand is not attached to the table, so it can 'float' upwards too.

 For the 'It's your Birthday' frame, I used the old red 'Bookplates, Oval' Sizzix die, to cut out thick mount board, and coated it with glue and glitter.

The Sentiment stamps are from Purple Onion, and the cake stand is from the Dovecraft 'Cupcakes' set.
The resin picture frame, and swirl on the cake stand are by Melissa Frances, and I used Tim Holtz's Scalloped On the Edge die.

 I'm adding this card to Sweet Stampin's 'Pastel' challenge, and also Totally Gorjuss' 'Spring Shades' challenge.

Sizzix Flip-its & Purple Onion Stamps Card

I received part of my Anniversary present today... some lovely stamps from Purple Onion, which I used on this simple card.

I used Copics to colour the bunny, and separate party hat and balloon.

The card base is the Square Flip-its die, with a square movers and shapers die, to cut the window behind the bunny. 

I added highlights with white Liquid Pearls, and Stickles glitter glue.

I'm adding this card to Sweet Stampin's 'Pastel' challenge, and also Totally Gorjuss' 'Spring Shades' challenge.

 Something lovely came through my letterbox today... this Thank you card from my friend Donna. I love her use of the Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts base die, the pretty Gorjuss stamps, and especially my name in bunting!!

Pop 'n Cuts Owl Card... Pirate version!

 I really enjoyed making the Owl card a couple of days ago - it just came together so quickly. I wanted to have a go at another one... and the idea of a Pirate Owl has been brewing (no idea where that came from!!), so here it is.

Again, using Karen Burniston's Pop 'n Cuts Base die, Sizzix Owl #2, Movers and Shapers Ovals (smallest one, for the tummy), Ancient Documents die, and Karen's Flagpole with Lantern and Sign die, for the handle of the flag. 

I used an old map for the background paper (my brother rescued hundreds of maps from a University Geology department which was closing one time - or something like that, so I have a stash of them), an Imaginisce stamp for the compass, and I hand cut the gold earring.

The Skull and Cross bones, and sentiment, I just printed from my computer.

I made the eye patch and waves using a circle punch.

I wanted to imitate a stripey pirate T-shirt for the owl's tummy, so cut strips of red satin fabric and glued them onto white card, before cutting out the oval.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself, and once again it came together really quickly. (I actually made it in between preparing our roast dinner this evening!)

I was also really happy to be included in Karen Burniston's latest 'Pop[up] Spotted: Accordion Album Inspiration' post on her blog, recently. There are lots of lovely ideas of how to use her great Accordion die.

Super-quick Sizzix Owl Pop 'n Cuts Card

An ultra-quick card tonight, just while all my stuff was still out!

I love how the Pop 'n Cuts base just makes anything stand out, and be more fun!

 Using: Sizzix Pop'n Cuts base, Owl, Movers and Shapers Oval (the smallest one, for owl's tummy), Hydrangeas and Borders (for the ric-rac trim), and Tim Holtz's Alphabetical die. I used some very old checked paper, other papers from MME's 'Away We Go', plus an old Sherlock Holmes book I use for cutting up!

Pop 'n Cuts/Tattered Floral Birthday Cards

A couple of co-ordinating cards which I made this afternoon. I was trying to do a shabby-bluey-purply-lilacy-type creation, and was surprised by how few purple and lilac papers I own - clearly not colours I am naturally drawn to!

I just cut out a tonne of flowers with Tim Holtz's Tattered Flower Garland die, for both cards.

Both cards use the Pop 'n Cuts base die, with Label insert - for the first card I cut the label section out in clear plastic, and stuck in on top of the inner card stock, so the sentiment (Cheery Lynn dies) and flowers kind of float. I cut both cards down quite a lot, so they are more square looking.

Also used Karen Burniston's 'Birds on a Wire' die. (The birds were actually put there because my adhesiving looked a bit messy in that corner, and needed hiding!)

The second card also uses the companion Movers and Shapers Label die from the Label and Ribbon set, and a Nestabilities label die. The metal frame is from Stampin' Up, and I cut out the centre behind it, with clear plastic behind, for the shiny heart to 'float' on.

Stampin' Up Birthday Card

I wanted to make a relatively simple birthday card last night, and came up with this one.

I thought it might serve as a male card.

 The house stamps are from a Stampin' Up wheel roller thingy ('Neighborhood Wheel' I think it was called), which I peeled the rubber stamp part from, chopped up, and added EZ mount to the back of, so that I can use them as individual stamps on a clear acrylic block.

My 'simple' card still led to a whole lot of fiddly cutting out of tiny houses, windows and clouds though! I love these EK Success Honey Bee scissors, for intricate work.

(The birthday stamp is from a Melissa Frances set, the papers from Papermania 'Happy Days'.)
